About Carl
A carpenter who became a courtroom veteran
Carl left school at 16 to help support four siblings and his parents. His father was a post office clerk. He worked as a carpenter, then put himself through an Honours law degree at Auckland University and was admitted as a Barrister of the New Zealand High Court.
After a stint as a law clerk at a high-profile finance company, he set up his own practice in criminal and family law litigation. He moved to Australia in 2003 and learned both the New South Wales and Queensland jurisdictions, then opened a firm on the border at Tweed Heads doing the same work.
Thirty-three years and more than 6,000 clients later, the goal is the same one he started with. People from every background deserve a skilled defence, which is why the firm is accredited with Legal Aid NSW and why the first consultation is free.
